Clean Up Your Dock with Google Quick Search Box

In my efforts to become more minimalistic, I have removed all unnecessary applications from my dock. At first it seemed to be a little more of a burden than a help since I was often visiting the Application folder. But then I remembered about a little program for the Mac called Google Quick Search Box.

Many of you may be familiar with other application launching tools such as Quicksilver (Mac), Launchy (Windows), and others. I prefer Google Quick Search Box because it ties into my Google and Twitter accounts easily.

With QSB I can press a custom hotkey to open the search box, type a couple letters of the app I wish to launch, then press enter. It’s that easy!

This is a great easy way to keep your desktop looking clean and reduce clutter in your dock.

I used to have about 20 application icons in my dock. I have been able to reduce that to about 6.

This tool isn’t only useful to launch applications. You can also use it to send twitter messages, email, search the web and tons more.

Thanks for the tip… I followed your leading and thinned out my dock as well. I was actually thinking about bringing some of the programs back so I wouldn’t have to go to Finder all the time. I’m gonna give this a try.

If it doesn’t work out for you, you can always create an application stack and keep all the icons out of your dock. That way you won’t need to access the finder so often.

That would be cool, too… but I really the Google Quick Search Box.
