The Importance of Taking A Break

Some­ti­mes I have a pro­blem slo­wing down. I feel like if I am not “busy” I am not being pro­duc­tive. But I think I have come to the rea­li­za­tion that breaks are neces­sary. My family and I are hea­ding out of town tomo­rrow for 2 days for a little vaca­tion. We’re ren­ting a condo up at Eagle Crest resort near Bend, OR. This will be the first vaca­tion (apart from visi­ting family) we’ve taken since our Honey­moon almost 5 years ago.

I Don’t Hate Mondays

Depressed Office Worker

I was sit­ting in Star­bucks this mor­ning when a young guy came up to the coun­ter. When the Barrista asked him how he was he grun­ted and said “I hate Mon­days”. He couldn’t have soun­ded more pathe­tic if he wanted to. He acted as if waking up Monday mor­ning was like a trip to the elec­tric chair. If you hate what you do each week so much — DON’T DO IT!

Stop Distracting Me!

There are a couple apps that I see dis­cus­sed here and there that are beco­ming quite popu­lar. They are Notify.app and Google Noti­fier. What these appli­ca­tions do are create icons on your com­pu­ter that will alert you if you have a new email mes­sage. I used them both for a while, but I don’t any­more. I also took email off of my phone. Here’s why:

How to Become a Great Urine Specimen Collector

When I first star­ted to learn about design I was all over the place. I star­ted taking cour­ses on Pho­toshop, CSS, Flash, HTML, PHP, Javasc­ript, Desk­top Publishing, Pho­to­graphy, Typo­graphy, Illus­tra­tion, and the list goes on. I was deter­mi­ned to learn every skill rela­ted to design. But as I grew up in my skills and know­ledge I quickly came to the rea­li­za­tion that this was not the best course of action if I wanted to become a really great designer.
