Sometimes I have a problem slowing down. I feel like if I am not “busy” I am not being productive. But I think I have come to the realization that breaks are necessary. My family and I are heading out of town tomorrow for 2 days for a little vacation. We’re renting a condo up at Eagle Crest resort near Bend, OR. This will be the first vacation (apart from visiting family) we’ve taken since our Honeymoon almost 5 years ago.

I was sitting in Starbucks this morning when a young guy came up to the counter. When the Barrista asked him how he was he grunted and said “I hate Mondays”. He couldn’t have sounded more pathetic if he wanted to. He acted as if waking up Monday morning was like a trip to the electric chair. If you hate what you do each week so much — DON’T DO IT!

There are a couple apps that I see discussed here and there that are becoming quite popular. They are Notify.app and Google Notifier. What these applications do are create icons on your computer that will alert you if you have a new email message. I used them both for a while, but I don’t anymore. I also took email off of my phone. When I first started to learn about design I was all over the place. I started taking courses on Photoshop, CSS, Flash, HTML, PHP, Javascript, Desktop Publishing, Photography, Typography, Illustration, and the list goes on. I was determined to learn every skill related to design. But as I grew up in my skills and knowledge I quickly came to the realization that this was not the best course of action if I wanted to become a really great designer.
