So now you have your Gravatar, and you’re plugged in to a social network or two. You will notice shortly that it is easy to get overwhelmed with the amount of information that is out there. Checking a dozen blogs each day can be taxing on your time and is not very productive. It gets even worse as you begin to build your reading list to hundreds of blogs that you’d like to read. Luckily there is an easy way to keep up to date with your favorite websites without wasting your time. Wouldn’t it be great if you could be notified when a site posts a new article? Well, you’re in luck. Let me introduce you to RSS.

Hopefully you went out and got yourself a Gravatar after reading the last post. Now we can move on to Social Networks. There are literally thousands of social networking services out there, so this can’t be a full-blown review of all of them — or any for that matter. What this post will do is show you the main types of social networking sites that are out there, and give some recommendations on how to use them.

A few posts back I did a review of a great online task management tool called Toodledo. It is the tool I have been using for quite a while to keep track of my busy life. Although I have got to hand it to them in the functionality department, the design could use a face-lift.

I have several friends locally who are into graphics, web, design, blogging, twitter, and other web geekery. It dawned on me that there is no real networking opportunities for us in the Salem area.
