It all started on a cold winter’s day…
My name is Vin Thomas. I am 29 year old web designer living in Salem, Oregon. I love to help small businesses and ministry organizations build great websites.
I never set out to be a web designer. I grew up in Canada, and went to a small Bible school in Texas right out of High School. The plan was to work in the creative arts field at a church. In 2004 after Bible School I moved to Salem, OR to start my graduate degree in Biblical Studies. I was also into music, and I was pursuing that when I got the idea in my head that I needed a website. So I started to tinker with programs like Front Page. I soon figured out that Front Page was whack and started to learn HTML and CSS. And that’s where my love for web design started.
Almost all the sites I design are done in WordPress. I am a big believer in this wonderful platform. It’s powerful, flexible, and open-source. WordPress is also a familiar tool for many bloggers. So when designing for clients who want to handle maintenance in-house, it’s nice to have a familiar interface to work with.
I love to work with churches and ministry organizations. Even though I didn’t end up working at a church, I can still use my passion for design to help churches build websites that make them more effective as an organization. I am also a contributing author to several christian blogs and serve as a Regional Network Coördinator for the Center for Church Communications.
Currently I work 3 days each week for as an Experience Designer for Waggener Edstrom Worldwide. The other 3 days (and some evenings) are spent working on my freelance projects. I take Sunday’s off to be with my wonderful family. I have a beautiful wife and 2 gorgeous little girls.
I’d love to work with you on your next design. If you haven’t already, take a look at my portfolio. If you like what you see please leave a comment or better yet…hire me!
Vin did an amazing job at completely recreating our website into a piece of work that is visually engaging, user-friendly and highly relevant. I wholeheartedly endorse Vin and his work 100%."
